The Broken Balance

A WORLD TURNING INTO DESERT
A SOCIETY HELD TOGETHER BY LIES
A RELIGION FOUNDED ON SUFFERING
A CITY ON THE BRINK OF EXTINCTION
A RELIGIOUS ASCETIC WHO DREAMS OF FREEDOM
A VISIONARY WHO WILL STOP AT NOTHING
A REJECT WHO LONGS FOR FORGIVENESS
A HEDONIST WHO CRAVES MEANING
A DANGEROUS BATTLE OF FAITH
THE FIGHT HAS JUST BEGUN
Set in a not quite so unbelievable future, The Broken Balance follows three women struggling to find their place in one of humanity's last cities: an unwilling member of a religious order who craves freedom and gratification over saving the world, her disgraced friend who struggles to reconcile her sense of guilt and justice, and a women who has been taught to value only herself and her own desires but longs for connection and purpose.
As their quests for freedom, forgiveness, and meaning set them on a collision course with an outlawed faith and brings them under the attention of the most dangerous man in the city, each will have to decide what she will live—and die—for.

Dawn
How do you learn to trust again?
In a world slowly being consumed by desert, the balance keepers are mankind’s last hope of appeasing the anger of the gods. But Monroe has failed to do her part. Rejected by everyone around her and tormented by memories, she desperately tries to find the courage to end it all.

When another balance keeper appears and shows her kindness, it seems that, perhaps, there could be more to life than endless guilt and misery. But can Monroe risk trusting someone again, after everything in her past warns her not to?
The Babbler and the Balance Keeper
The truth won't set Quincy free, but her lies will.

For a balance keeper, suffering is a way of life. Chosen from the inhabitants of one of humanity's last cities to atone for its sins, they are the only hope of stopping the advancing desert. But Quincy doesn't believe in the gods she must appease. The desert still threatens to swallow the city whole, and no god has struck her down yet. Quincy wants freedom, for herself and her disgraced friend Monroe. But defiance means death.
Hope arrives with a prisoner from the outside world. The rebel follows a savior, who she claims has rescued her before. With freedom finally within her grasp, Quincy attempts to win the woman's trust. If Quincy can convince her she believes in her strange religion, this mysterious savior will have to free her and Monroe too.

But the outsider is more interested in uncovering Quincy's most dangerous secrets than discussing escape plans. And every passing hour increases the threat of discovery. A powerful visitor has arrived, with schemes of his own for the prisoner—and Quincy.
Execution awaits Quincy if she fails, but her gamble for freedom could cost her what she treasures most: Monroe's friendship.
